DR. KIOWA TIV "TIV"

Tiv is a 14 year old registered Quarter Horse gelding. He stands at 15.3 hands, weighs 1200 pounds and is a liver chestnut (registered black, but changed color) with cheek branding, one white sock, diamond on forehead and a snip on nose. His donor reports that he likes people, respect’s handler’s space, he is low energy, smart, cross ties, lunges, loads, clips, ties, bathes, leads quietly, good with other horses, good with children, quiet in stall, and has a good temperament.

He is good with the vet and farrier. He is current on vaccinations, worming and dental care. Tiv does have heaves which began with a batch of moldy hay and evolved into asthma. Airborne irritants/hot and dusty weather aggravates his condition. In dry/hot conditions he is given Tri-Hist supplement 1x day in his grain. He also uses an Albeuterol inhaler (sparingly) if in distress. He also is currently wearing degree pads on front feet w/egg bars which keeps his heels up. His donor states he has been very sound for as long as she can remember with this shoeing.

Tiv currently is being ridden a few times a month. His past experiences include being a working ranch horse in the Western US and a trail horse. His donor feels he would make an excellent therapeutic riding horse as long as the area he is being ridden in is not a dusty arena. His donor also feel Tiv would happy being used as a trail horse or on a working farm or ranch. He does need to be on grass pasture and kept in as low-dust conditions as possible. If a busy arena is nearby, he may need to be located away from the dust being kicked up. His donor feels it would be best for Tiv to keep him in a cooler (Northern) climate as he does better in the cool weather and he likes snow!

The recommended level of experience of handler on ground is a beginner/child. The recommended minimum level of rider is beginner/child. His donor does state that although he is good alone, she does want him going to a home where he will have a companion or other horses in site.

Tiv sounds like he would make a wonderful addition to a therapeutic riding program with the right riding conditions, a wonderful companion, trail horse or a beginning rider’s dream horse! If you are interested in adopting Tiv. Please fill out our adoption application today! Donor will speak with approved adopters and is more than happy to answer any questions interested adopters may have on Tiv.

Adoption fee: TBD to right, forever home!

Best traits: Gentle and forgiving – a beginner’s dream horse!

Worst traits: No trotting or cantering at this time.

Tiv is currently located in Oakland, NJ and will remain with his donor until he is adopted.
