Your horse can find a home with another
person, who looks at them as a gift.
As a horse owner, parting with your beloved friend is
one of the toughest decisions you can face.
Until now, your options have been to sell or give
away your horse, without knowing if he/she would be
loved and cared for.
Adoption is a wonderful option, and you've come to
the right place! Adopters are not people who
buy on impulse or on a whim. They fill
out a lengthy application and subject themselves to
interviews and possible home visits. As a
safeguard, BITS adopters have the option to return
their horse within the first 2 years, if
things don't work out. We make every
effort to place your horse in a loving home.
To ensure adoptions are successful, we impose restrictions concerning the health and behavior of donated horses. In some cases, we may be able to provide rehabilitation and training to facilitate a horse’s transition to a new career or home. However, horses that cannot be safely ridden because of physical disabilities or behavioral problems cannot be accepted.
A riding horse is any horse that doesn't have any physical limitations and is able to walk/trot/canter/jump under saddle safely with a rider matching their training level (beginner, intermediate or advanced). This horse may need some retraining, but is safe to handle on the ground. It can be placed from the donor's home or a foster home.
Special "BITS of Love" Horses are a beginner
safe horse who is still sound for light riding or
therapeutic work in hand. This horse has some
physical limitations such as age, blindness, partial
blindness, or soundness issues that limit them to
walk or walk/trot in hand or under saddle. These
horses are suitable for small children. This horse
MUST stay with it's donor until it is placed.
