SANCTUARY
Do you have room in your heart . . . . . but not at your home to help a horse in need? Please consider becoming an angel to a horse that has been placed into our Sanctuary Program!
All horses placed into our Sanctuary Program have been done so because of physical limitations, age or health issues.
Many of our Sanctuary Horses have led amazing careers. Although they are unable to continue the heavy work load necessary to continue in these careers, they now have become a valuable learning asset to our organization. They will stand for hours while being groomed, are very forgiving on a child's first ride, and have so much love to give!

OUR SANCTUARY HORSES
KARATS AND KISSES "GOLIATH"
LOOKING FOR AN ANGEL!
This big guy is a 26 year old registered Belgian Warmblood gelding who stands at 17.3 hands. He has led an amazing show career including Dressage and Eventing. He was placed with us through his loving owner so he could have a safe forever home to live out his retirement years. He may be a big boy, but he is as gentle as can be. A few of our volunteers have had the privilege of having their first ride ever on this gentle giant. He enjoys lounging in the pasture and being fed oatmeal cookies and peppermints! He does have limitations because of arthritic issues and will be a Sanctuary Horse for life.
J.R. KAHN "KAHN"

THANKS TO ROUNDTABLE PRODUCTIONS FOR BEING MY ANGEL!
Another horse with a phenomenal show career, Khan is an 19 year old gray Warmblood gelding (Hanoverian/Trakehner cross). He is 18 hh and about 1500 pounds. Khan is a retired “School Master” of Dressage and a former High Level Show Jumper. he has arthritic changes in his hocks and a very poorly maintained club foot. He does have soundness issues, but is getting better with constant farrier work and supplements. He is a very sweet horse and is thoroughly enjoying his well deserved retirement! He did come to us with a few mental issues, but once we realized his problem and corrected the situation, he is now happy as can be! His favorite treats are sugar cubes, oatmeal cookies and peppermints!
BIG HARRY DEAL "DEALER"

LOOKING FOR AN ANGEL!
Dealer had originally been placed into our program as available for adoption. His donor sought advice for the ideal situation for Dealer because of his age and arthritic changes. He had led a very successful career and retirement seemed the best thing for him. He was placed into our Sanctuary Program and will remain with us for life. He is a very kind hearted gentleman and has already stolen the hearts of all the volunteers! He is now enjoying the life of luxury with other seniors in our care.
He was sired by Northern Mystic and his dam is Country Jo. He was raced until age 5 and he was purchased by Otterbeim College and was put into their Equestrian Team until the age of 12. He participated in Dressage, Eventing, Hunt Seat and Western Pleasure. He progressed to be an advanced horse being able to complete lateral movements and extended gaits in Dressage and completed course work at the 2'3"-2'6" level and above comfortably. After leaving the college, Dealer was shown very successfully in both Hunter and Dressage.
TINY TIM "TINY"
JUNE 29TH, 2007
JULY 22ND, 2007
AUGUST 22, 2007
THANKS JIM, TAMMY AND GAIL FOR BEING MY ANGEL!
"Tiny" came to us by way of a horse auction in Centre Hall, PA. He had worked very hard in the fields his entire life and when no longer able to perform his job, he was tossed away to the auction, like so many others. We luckily were there so save him with a high bid of $10. It is hard to believe this big guy was being worked in the fields in this condition. He is missing several teeth on his right side and his left was very long and sharp. The vet did what he could for him, but Tiny is still unable to eat hay. His diet consists of soaked hay cubes, beet pulp, complete feed and senior feed. He has made a remarkable comeback in a very short time.
Due to the high maintenance of Tiny, we have decided to place him in our Sanctuary Program so he will remain happy and healthy for the remainder of his life. He is loving his new surroundings and his new job as a pasture buddy. He quickly stole the hearts of all the volunteers and gives big sloppy kisses to all!
CENTER COURTH "NOBLE"
PICS COMING SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS TO MARILYN FOR BEING MY ANGEL!
"Noble" is a 17 Y/O Mecklenberger gelding. He was placed in our Sanctuary Program by his owner when he was diagnosed with Degenerative Suspensary Ligament Disease (DSLD). He was a wonderful jumper having been shown in upper level jumping.
Although no longer able to be ridden, Noble still has lots of love to give! He is a big ham that loves to put a smile on those that have the pleasure of meeting him! With his winning personality, Noble has stolen the hearts of several of our volunteers. He is very pleasant and a true gentleman and will stand forever to be groomed and pampered. His favorite snacks include carrots, peppermints and he also has become fond of Cheetos!
TWO OF HEARTS "PHOENIX"
PICS COMING SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOOKING FOR AN ANGEL!
Phoenix is a 17 Y/O Thoroughbred gelding. He was a former race horse who successfully moved on to the hunter/jumper arena. He developed arthritic issues in his hocks and his back and can no longer meet the heavy demands of this workload. His owner wanted what was best for him and placed him in our Sanctuary Program for retirement.
Phoenix is very loving and sweet. He has good manners and is a valuable asset to our BITS Program. He is very forgiving and sweet and is another true gentleman who loves to be spoiled and pampered. Although he is allergic to carrots, he does enjoy peppermints, Cheerios and oatmeal cookies!
ENCORE "COREY"

LOOKING FOR AN ANGEL!
Corey is a 12 Y/O Dutch Warmblood/TB cross gelding. Although still a "youngster", Corey has had several injuries and soundness issues in his past. He has a chipped sesmoid bone in his front fetlock as well as arthritis throughout the joint. He has had a bowed tendon and also has back issues. His owner wanted only the best for Corey and placed him with BITS as a Sanctuary horse. Although very talented and athletic, Corey is not 100% sound and is a pasture buddy only.
Corey loves romping around the paddock with his best buddy Skye (pictured above). He has totally stolen the heart of one of our volunteers, Kortnee. She spends countless hours pampering and spoiling this big guy and he provides lots of kisses in return!
A WALK IN THE CLOUDS "SKYE"

LOOKING FOR AN ANGEL!
Skye is a 17 Y/O TB/Warmblood cross. Skye was originally placed in our program as available for adoption. After reviewing his past injuries and health problems, we chose to place him in our Sanctuary Program for life. We did this not only to protect Skye from possible further injury, but also to give him the retirement he so graciously earned!
He led an amazing show career as a hunter/jumper as well as equitation. He also is trained in Dressage and enjoys going out on the trails. Although his jumping days and heavy work load are far behind him, he loves teaching the volunteers beginning riding skills. He loves playing with his best buddy Corey (shown above) and loves being the center of attention to one special volunteer, Christina. His personality is amazing and he has a wonderful sense of humor! He loves being spoiled and loves his french fries! He also has become quite fond of ranch flavored Doritos and has been known to snatch the whole bag and run!
